See Us - Hear Us: Women’s Voices in Image and Word

The Michigan Women's Art Collective, a group of visual artists, poets, and performers who hail from Grand Haven to Detroit, presents See Us, Hear Us: Women’s Voices In Image and Word. The artists in this exhibit work in a variety of media but are connected by the desire to engage in community while exploring the inner landscape of the soul. Members of the MWAC assert their right to be seen and heard, to respond to both local and global pressures, to own a voice and to assert it, to speak from the heart and mind.

Breaching the Margins •
May 10 - Aug 18, 2019

Breaching the Margins is a juried exhibition of works by artists who examine ways in which marginalized groups navigate and work against social exclusion. Societies often attempt to deny marginalized groups of people avenues for social inclusion and space to articulate self-defined identities. However, art can be an active force that supersedes societal relegations, and a catalyst to give power to groups who were formerly powerless. The selected artists approach these ideas from various points of view, and offer dialogues regarding their rejection of marginalization.
