Prof. Bux
is a queer visual artist, humanities professor, and visual culture researcher based in Grand Rapids, Mi.
Their work explores identity, media, consumer culture, performance, and the ways humans create meaning through images, objects, and shared cultural rituals.
Holding both a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design, Bux brings together over two decades of experience in art, design, education, public speaking, and community engagement. Their interdisciplinary practice spans painting, performance, writing, teaching, and public humanities work.
As an educator, Bux is committed to creating thoughtful, accessible spaces where art and culture become tools for empathy, curiosity, and self-expression. Their teaching and research often examine visual storytelling, queer identity, Americana, advertising, nostalgia, and the emotional relationships people build with media and material culture.
Through both creative practice and public-facing scholarship, Prof. Bux seeks to encourage conversation, connection, and critical engagement with the visual world around us.
